Pictures and info on the Beswick Beatrix Potter Jemima puddle-duck
figure.
Before Beswick England was bought
out by Royal Doulton and even before the company was mostly known for creating
beautiful statues of champion horses and show dogs, the Beswick England company
was most famous for creating adorable figures that were based on the Beatrix
Potter books. The first figurine that Beswick ever made using these books as
inspiration was the adorable Jemima Puddle-Duck. This story, about a mother duck
that only wants to lay her eggs in peace and ends up almost being a fox’s
dinner, comes alive with this sweet figurine to remind us all to be better
sitters!
This figurine depicts Jemima Puddle-Duck with a
purple shawl draped around her shoulders and a blue bonnet on her head. The
detailing on this figure is perfect with the artist not forgetting the two-tone
bill or the bow from the bonnet tied neatly under the chin. Jemima Puddle-Duck
stands on a patch of grass that is also so finely handcrafted that one can
actually see individual blades of grass! Simply turn this charming character
over to see the Beswick England stamp of authenticity and to also see that
Jemima was originally distributed in 1948. Such a vintage piece must cost a
small fortune though! Surprisingly, the Beswick Beatrix Potter Jemima
Puddle-Duck figure can be found in mint condition for only $4.99 USD. There’s no
better way to add a rare piece for such a rare price!
