WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE FLUTE
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What is the most expensive flute in the world?
Flutes are woodwind instruments
that produce their sound without the use of a reed, something all other
woodwinds need in order to create music. Instead, flutes use the flow of air
against an edge to make their beautiful melodies. Once, flutes were very
inexpensive to make as they primarily consisted of swan bones and mammoth tusks.
That is very different today with flutes being made
from different metals, including precious metals such as silver, gold and
platinum. These precious metals are used to make the flutes not only for their
appealing look but also because they are believed to produce the best sound.
Platinum alloy flutes are made to create the best sound due to its ability to
maintain stable pitches and has different dynamic levels.
The world’s most expensive flute was once owned by
William Kincaid and was made by the Verne Q. Powell Company. Kincaid had many
credits to his name including teaching at the Curtis Institute of Music in
Philadelphia, playing in the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra as well as the New
York City Symphony Orchestra, and receiving the C. Hartman Kuhn Award.
The flute that Kincaid played with was made in 1939
and he used it until he passed away in 1967. The platinum flute was sold at a
Christie’s Auction in 1986 for $187,000.
