It’s not actually the bagel that is so pricey; it’s
what lies on top of the bagel. The cream cheese is a white truffle cream cheese.
White truffles are the most expensive food in the world by weight, second only
to caviar. The truffles are actually a fungus, which can only be found under the
oak trees of Alba, Italy. The smell is also thought to be an aphrodisiac. Also
on the bagel is the Reisling jelly that is infused with goji berries and golden
leaves. Goji berries are known to be the food that contains the highest amount
of beta-carotene in the world. These berries are also well known for their
healing properties.
All of the great toppings on this bagel give it a
price tag of $1,000 and part of the proceeds are given to the Les Amis
d’Escoffier Scholarship. This scholarship will help current and future students
of the culinary arts.
