What is the most expensive toy robot in the world?
If this toy robot was for retail
sale, it would truly be only for the rich and famous. Unlike the robots and
other figures that you will find in retail stores, being sold for somewhere
around $40, the most expensive toy robot in the world is valued at $250,000 USD.
The robot was created by the Japanese company,
Bandai and the jewellers Ginza Tanaka. The two teams created the robot to gain
more exposure. Bandai had a special interest as they were trying to draw
attention to their toy flagships.
The toy robot made its world debut
in 2007 at Baselworld 2007 in Basel, Switzerland, which is the largest jewellery
and watch show in the world.
So why is it so expensive? The
figure is made entirely from Gundam Fix Platinum, and fourteen hundred grams of
platinum were needed to make up the eighty-nine different parts of the robot.
All platinum except of course, the .15 carat diamond that is used for the camera
eye fitted into the head. Only for the rich and famous, indeed!
