What is the most expensive sushi bar in the world?
Sushi made its way from Japan to
mainstream menus decades ago and now you can find a sushi bar on just about
every block in any major city. When thinking of sushi, many people automatically
think of raw fish and may turn up their noses. In fact, the term sushi refers to
any dish that has been made using vinegared rice, which is called shari, and
other ingredients which don’t have to include fish at all. If fish is included,
it can be cooked or raw and still be considered sushi.
Manhattan boasts the most expensive sushi
restaurant in the world. The restaurant is called Masa and it is here that
Japanese master chef, Masa Takayama, calls home. When visiting the restaurant,
don’t expect to sit down and open the menu. What you will be eating for your
meal will depend entirely on what the chef chooses to serve. This style of
dining is called omakase and not only does it allow you to have a totally unique
dining experience but it also gives the chef an opportunity to use only the
freshest fish sold on the Japanese and American markets.
Reservations at Masa will cost $300 USD and you
will need to make them three weeks in advance.
