What is the most expensive toy car in the world?

When it comes to toy cars, you can buy them in just about any shape or size that you could imagine. Some are big enough to climb right into, while others can be pushed or dragged around. And while you most likely won’t want to push or drag around the most expensive toy car, it may surprise you to find out that it can fit right in the palm of your hand!

It may seem only appropriate that the makers of the world’s most expensive toy car are none other than the manufacturers at Hot Wheels, the folks behind the huge success of their own line of dinky cars. Hot Wheels issued the car in order to celebrate their 40th anniversary as well to commemorate the making of their 4 billionth car and just to ensure that the event was marked properly, the company contacted a jeweler in Beverly Hills to cover the car, which was a casting of the Hot Wheels Custom Otto car that had been done in 18-karat white gold, in blue, white, and black diamonds. 2,700 diamonds in total were actually used to cover the car, including the Hot Wheels logo along the side. But if you think that it’s just the diamonds that help make up for the cost of the most expensive toy car, you would be wrong. The two rubies that are used as taillights also help!

The car costs $140,000 and although it has not yet been sold, it has already attracted some attention from some high-profile people. Nick Lachey from 98 Degrees unveiled the car and also had the honor of choosing a charity that would benefit from the proceeds of the sale. Lachey chose Big Brother Big Sister and the auction will be held late in 2009.
