What is the most expensive personal safe in the world?
May 13, 2010
Have you ever seen those huge
safes in movies that, after entering a combination or pressing your thumbprint
up against a scanner, move the door back only to have several drawers and
cabinets pop out from within it? If you have, you know how impressive these
safes can really be. But these safes are not just things of movies. Now you can
own one of these sci-fi safes for yourself! All you need is $339,000 – and an
ability to get your hands on one.
Karl Lagerfield is the creative director for both
Chanel and Fendi and now it seems, he wants to turn his focus on protecting all
that money he’s helped stash away into purses for several years. Lagerfield went
to work with the German safe designers, Dottling, to create Narcissus, the most
expensive personal safe in the world.
Narcissus is a very imposing personal safe,
standing at over six feet tall. However, it’s less than a foot deep. The entire
safe is made from steel and it’s coated with a chrome-plated aluminum, to make
it shine as brilliantly as the diamonds that may be contained inside of it! It
looks impressive when it’s closed, but even more impressive when you open it and
see all of those gadgets that pop out from it. Included in those gadgets are two
sets of cabinets, watch winders, and drawers that can slide out on both sides.
Not only does the world’s most expensive personal
safe cost a princely sum, its’ also uber-rare. The designers only made 30 of
them, and Lagerfield has already laid claim to one himself, leaving only 29 left
for consumer purchase. So if you want one, you better hurry!
