When you're a bird that can't fly you naturally learn to run fast.

The ostrich is no exception, since it can not fly away from it's African predators, it tries to outrun them.

Even though the ostrich weighs about 250 pounds, it can reach fleeing speeds of 45 MPH, which makes it the world's fastest land bird.

As a side note, there was a study done over some 80 years of hundreds of thousands of ostriches and not one ostrich buried, or even tried to bury it's head.
