What was the world's fastest time to escape from handcuffs?
Matthew Cassiere, also known as “Matt the Knife,” from
the United States, holds the world record for the fastest time to escape from a
pair of handcuffs. The handcuffs belonged to Sergeant Daniel Parillo, from the
Johnston Police Department. Cassiere escaped from the handcuffs within five
seconds at Johnston War Memorial Park in Rhode Island on October 30, 2004.
On the same day, Cassiere also broke the record for
the fastest time to escape from handcuffs while being underwater. Cassiere’s
entire body was submerged in a lake, also at Johnston War Memorial Park. He
escaped from the handcuffs in 11.12 seconds. The handcuffs once again belonged
to Sergeant Daniel Parillo.
The escapes were simply to break a record and
Cassiere was not actually being arrested at either time.
