WORLD'S FIRST BOBSLEIGH
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What was the world's first bobsleigh?
Bobsleigh got it's birth in St.
Moritz, Switzerland in the late 1800's when the Swiss strapped two toboggans
together and attached a steering mechanism.
The bobsleigh got it's name from the way the sledders bobbed their heads on the
way down the hill.
In 1897 the
world's first bobsleigh club was formed and competitions were held on steep icy
roads of St. Moritz.
Within five years bobsleigh tracks were springing up all over Switzerland.
In
1923, the Fédération internationale de bobsleigh et de tobogganing (FIBT) was
formed and in 1924 bobsleigh made it's debut in Chamonix, France in the
first modern Olympics.
