WORLD'S FIRST MODEM
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

What was the world's first modem?

In the 1950's North American Air Defense needed to transmit data over phone lines and this need was met in the late 1950's.

It took until 1962 for the world's first commercial modem to be released, the Bell 103, created by AT&T.

The Bell 103 had a sizzling speed of 300 bits/second.

In 1980 modem speeds reached 14.4 Kbps.

It took 14 years to double the speed to 28.8 Kbps.

In 1996 Dr. Brent Townshend created the 56K modem.
