WORLD'S FIRST US STAMP
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What was the world's first US stamp?
The US was the third country to
officially issue stamps and on July 01 1847 they released two stamps.
Before 1847 postage stamps were printed by private
delivery companies, but a law which passed on March 03 1847 made the use of
stamps not authorized by the Postmaster General illegal.
The first two stamps released were the 5¢ Red Brown
Franklin and the 10¢ Black Washington.
The 5¢ Red Brown Franklin had a mintage of 3.7 million
and a used copy can be had for about $500.00 USD.
The 10¢ Black Washington had a mintage of 900,000 and a
used copy can be had for about $12500.00 USD.
