The first WHA game ever

WORLD'S FIRST WHA GAME
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

When was the world's first WHA game?

The WHA (World Hockey Association) was founded by Garry L. Davidson and Dennis A. Murphy and on June 10 1971 the articles of Incorporation were signed.

The WHA became a major threat to the NHL when it started signing some of the NHL's top star, such as Bobby Hull, for unheard of amount of money.

The first season saw the WHA ice 12 teams:

  • New England Whalers

  • Cleveland Crusaders

  • Philadelphia Blazers

  • Ottawa Nationals

  • Quebec Nordiques

  • New York Raiders

  • Winnipeg Jets

  • Houston Aeros

  • Los Angeles Sharks

  • Minnesota Fighting Saints

  • Alberta Oilers

  • Chicago Cougars

The WHA lasted until the end of the 1979 season and on March 22 1979 reached an agreement with the NHL where some teams would enter the NHL and other would be paid to disband.

The world's first regular season WHA game occurred on October 11 1972 when the Alberta Oilers defeated the Ottawa Nationals 7 - 4.

The first WHA goal was scored by Alberta's Rob Anderson.
