Toshiba Corp. of Tokyo was to ship the world's first HD DVD recorder on July 14 2006 but due to production delays it was not available for sale till July 27 2006.

Although HD DVD players are already available Toshiba's RD-A1 HD DVD recorder is the first with recording capability.

The RD-A1 HD DVD recorder features a 1 terabyte  hard drive, capable of storing up to 130 minutes of high definition recordings.

One neat feature about the RD-A1 is the ability to be remotely control the unit over the Internet via e-mail.
