Forbes Field, the world's first
baseball stadium opened in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 30 1909.
Forbes Field was home to the Pittsburgh Pirates until
it closed on June 28 1970.
Forbes Field was named after General John Forbes, a British general during
the French and Indian War that captured Fort Pitt from the French Army in 1758.
In the first game at Forbes Field, on June 30 1909, the
Chicago Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3 - 2.
