On March 25 1986 at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary Kurt Browning became the world's first figure skater to land a quadruple jump in competition.

The competition was won by Brian Boitano but Kurt Browning did win the World Championships 4 of the following 5 years; 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1993.
