Who was the world's first Caterpillar Club member?
The Caterpillar Club is a group of
people who's lives were saved by a parachute after bailing out from a disables
aircraft.
Each confirmed
member receives membership certificate and a lapel pin.
On April 28 1919 Leslie Irvin successfully tested his
parachute that a pilot could deploy in case of emergency using a rip cord.
Leslie Irvin landed safely, but broke his ankle in the test.
On August 24 1920 William O'Connor's life was saved by
a parachute but the event went unrecognized.
On October 20 1922 Lieutenant Harold R. Harris safely
jumped from his monoplane and became the world's first Caterpillar Club member.
