WORLD'S FIRST
COMPUTER GAME
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What was the world's first computer game?
We all know that computers are
good for only one thing; games, so where did it all begin?
In 1952 A.S. Douglas created a computer version of Tic-Tac-Toe
on an EDSAC computer and wasting time had it's foothold.
Spacewar! is generally accepted to be the first true
computer game and was written by Steve Russell, a computer programmer from MIT
in 1962, strictly for computer play.
If you wanted to play Spacewar! in 1962 you'd need a
PDP-1 computer, which was about the size of your family car, and a cathode-ray
tube type display and keyboard input.
The goal of the game was to maneuver a spaceship and
shoot your opponent before he shot you.
