The first triple play ever

WORLD'S FIRST
TRIPLE PLAY (MLB)

THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

When was the world's first triple play?

The first triple play occurred on May 13, 1876 in the fifth inning of the game between the New York Mutuals and the Hartford Dark Blues, with the New York Mutuals being the team to execute it.

Since then over 650 triple plays have been recorded with another one being made every 1,110 games or so.

What's even rarer than the triple play is the unassisted triple play, it occurred once in the 19th century and 12 more times in the modern era.

The first unassisted triple play was made by Paul Hines of the Providence Grays against the Boston Red Caps on May 8, 1878.

The first unassisted triple play in the modern era was made by Neal Ball of the Cleveland Indians against the Boston Red Sox on July 19, 1909.
