WORLD'S FIRST
CANADIAN LOONIE

THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

What was the world's first Canadian Loonie?

Canada decided to do away with the one dollar bill and on June 30, 1987 the first Canadian Loonie was released, nicknamed so since it portrayed a loon on the reverse.

Canadian dollar bills were phased out and are very rarely seen in circulation any more.

The Loonie is 26.5 millimeters in diameter, 1.75 millimeters thick and weighs 7 grams.

On February 19, 1996 Canada introduced the Toonie to replace the two dollar bill.
