On February 6, 1921, the Yankees issued a press release to announce the purchase of 10 acres of property in the west Bronx for a sum of $675,000.

New York's White Construction Co. was awarded the contract on May 5, 1922 valued at $2.5 million to build the stadium.

On April 18, 1923 74,200 fans came to see the world's first baseball game at Yankee Stadium, which by then was known as "The House That Ruth Built".

The Yankees recorded their first win at Yankee Stadium that day, defeating the Boston Red Sox 4-1 in a game which saw Babe Ruth hit his first homerun at the stadium.

Yankee Stadium closed for the 1974 & 1975 seasons and the Yankees relocated to Shea Stadium while Yankee Stadium underwent renovations, it reopened on April 15, 1976.
