When was the world's first Calgary Stampede?
When the Canadian Pacific Railway
arrived in Calgary, Calgarians thought is was a reason to celebrate and in 1886
they did just that, holding the first Calgary Exhibition.
In 1912 an American by the name of Guy Weadick came to
Calgary and suggested a rodeo event and Wild West show, Calgary obliged and the
Calgary Stampede was born.
In 1923 the Calgary Exhibition and the Calgary Stampede were combined and
they have been held in the second week of every July since.
