The first MLB game ever

WORLD'S FIRST MLB GAME
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

When was the world's first MLB game?

If we told you that we not only had information pertaining to when the very first Major League Baseball game was played but actually had a printout of a play-by-play for the game, would you believe it? It’s amazing but true the original document was recorded by a man by the name of Bob Tiemann, who donated it to a company called Retrosheet. The computerization was then completed by Andy Singer, who was a very well-known researcher on 19th century baseball.

The game was played on May 4, 1871 and was a match between the Cleveland Forest Cities and the Fort Wayne Kekiongas. All of the information on the documented sheet has been verified and most of it is in order. During this time, the home team had the option of batting in the last inning even if they were winning and while they were winning 2-0, Fort Wayne chose to bat during the ninth. Below is a copy of the actual play-by-play activity that was recorded by Bob Tiemann.

Major League Baseball, the organization that operates the National League and the American League, by means of a joint organizational structure,  was formed in 1903 when the National League and the American League united as one league.

Opening day for Major League Baseball was on April 16, 1903 and had the Pittsburgh Pirates defeat the Cincinnati Reds 7-1 at the Palace of the Fans in Cincinnati Reds and the St. Louis Cardinals down the Chicago Cubs 2-1 at Robison Field in St. Louis.

Both of these games featured teams from the National League.

April 20, 1903 was opening day for the American League and only two teams played, the Boston Americans and the Philadelphia Athletics, at Huntington Ave Baseball Grounds in Boston.

Boston and Philadelphia played a double-header that day with Boston winning the first game 9-4 and Philadelphia winning the second game 10-7.
