Who was the world's first man in space?

The honor of being the world's first person to go to space falls on Ю́рий Алексе́евич Гага́рин, or translated into English, Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin.

Yuri Gagarin was born in Klushino, USSR on March 09, 1934.

In 1960 he, along with 19 others were selected for the Soviet space program, eventually beating them all out to be selected as the cosmonaut for Vostok 1.

Vostok 1 luanched on April 12 1961, completed one orbit around the Earth taking 108 minutes to do so, then safely returned Yuri Gagarin back to Earth, Yuri Gagarin was just a passenger as Vostok 1 was controlled from the ground.

Upon his return Yuri Gagarin was an instant hero and the world's first man in space.
