WORLD'S FIRST
PAIR OF BLUE JEANS
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What was the world's first pair of blue jeans?
You may not believe this but Levi
Strauss was born in Buttenheim, Bavaria on February 26, 1829.
When Levi Strauss heard about the California gold
rush, he migrated to San Francisco in the hopes of making his fortune. He
however, had no plans to make his great wealth by panning for gold like others.
By January 1853, he became an American citizen and by early March had set up a
wholesale dry good business. This company was the west coast representative for
the families New York Company. From here, they distributed clothing, umbrellas,
handkerchiefs, underwear, and bolts of fabric to other small stores that opening
up in the area.
The first address of the Levi business was 90
Sacrament Street and was called Levi Strauss. By 1866, after several moves and
name changes, Levi Strauss & Co. finally found a home at 14-16 Battery Street.
This was the home to the company for the next forty years.
In 1872, Jacob Davis a regular customer and Reno,
Nevada tailor contacted Levi. He explained the way he used the bolts of fabric
to create pants for his customers.
On May 20, 1873, Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss were
granted a patent on the idea using metal rivets at the points of strain to make
the pants stronger. This was the birth of the blue jeans we know today.
