THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

When was the first shutout loss in the NHL recorded?

The 2005-06 NHL season saw the introduction of the shootout which presented a unique opportunity, two goalies recording a shutout in the same game, with one of them recording a shutout while losing.

It took until December 06, 2005 for this event to occur.

The Philadelphia Flyers hosted the Calgary Flames and through three periods the game was scoreless. Overtime solved nothing and the game went to the shootout.

Philadelphia's Mike Richards scored on Calgary's Miikka Kiprusoff while Philadelphia's goalie, Antero Niittymaki, stopped all the shots.

This gave Calgary and their goalie, Miikka Kiprusoff, the first recorded shutout loss in the history of the NHL.
