WORLD'S FIRST WINDOWS
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

What was the world's first Windows OS?

Microsoft, short for microcomputer software, was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen.

In the mid 80s Microsoft secured a contract with IBM for providing an operating system, MS-DOS, for their PCs.

In November 1985, after 4 years in development, the first Windows, version 1.0, hit the stores.

Windows 1.0 was basically a flop.

1987 saw the release of Windows 2.0 which had a slightly better acceptance, due to significant usability improvements and the addition of icons and overlapping windows.

Window 3.0, released in 1990 was the first of the Windows successes featuring the ability to address memory above 640K and a more powerful user interface.

Windows 3.0 sold over 10 million copies.
