WORLD'S FIRST COMIC STRIP
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

What was the world's first comic strip?

Many people still rush for the Sunday paper so that they can sit with the comics and get a giggle. But so many comics have been produced and released over the years that it’s difficult to define when it all started and what the first cartoon really was. It’s a common belief that Hogan’s Alley, which was the first cartoon ever to be produced as nothing published before this can be found, although someone probably sketched out a comic before this one without it ever having been published.

Hogan’s Alley appeared in Truth magazine in 1894 and 1895.

Along with Hogan’s Alley came not only one of the first comic strip characters, but also one of the most memorable. This character was named The Yellow Kid and he was the main character in the cartoon. The cartoon was both for entertainment purposes as well as political as The Yellow Kid hung out in an alley with other children and the only method of communication he had was to wear an oversized yellow nightshirt, on which would be written whatever The Yellow Kid wanted to say. It was a tactic that was meant to make mockery of the number of advertising billboards that could be seen everywhere.
