WORLD'S FIRST 0 AND 3 COMEBACK
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What was the world's first comeback from 0 and 3 ?
Out of the major professional
sports in North America the NHL, NBA and MLB have best of seven series. The odds
of a team coming back from an 0 and 3 deficit, assuming the odds of winning are
50%, are 1/16 or 6.25%.
In reality the odds are far less, under 1% to be more specific, in fact this
great comeback has only occurred 4 times in the history of North American
professional sports and never in the NBA.
The first come back from an 0 and 3 deficit was
accomplished by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1942 Stanley Cup finals when they
defeated the Detroit Red Wings in 7 games to capture the cup.
April 4: Detroit 3 Toronto 2
April 7: Detroit 4 Toronto 2
April 9: Toronto 2 Detroit 5
April 12: Toronto 4 Detroit 3
April 14: Detroit 3 Toronto 9
April 16: Toronto 3 Detroit 0
April 18: Detroit 1 Toronto 3
The second 0 - 3 comeback also
occurred on the ice when the New York Islanders won 4 straight against the
Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1975 Quarterfinals.
The third 0 - 3 comeback was accomplished in Major
League Baseball in 2004 when the Boston Red Sox shocked the New York
Yankees coming back from 3 games down in the League Championship Series.
The fourth was achieved by the Philadelphia Flyers in
the 2010 Conference Semi-Finals. The Flyers not only came back against the
Boston Bruins after being down 3 games to 0, they also came back in game 7 after
being down 3 goals to 0 in the first period. The Flyers would score 4 unanswered
goals and win the series 4-3 as well as the game 4-3.
