What was the world's first McDonalds?
In 1937 Richard and Maurice (Dick and Mac) McDonald opened
their first restaurant in Arcadia, Ca and called it the Airdrome.
In 1940 the McDonald brothers opened McDonald's Barbeque restaurant in San
Bernardino, CA and soon found hamburger to be their big money maker.
In October 1948 they closed the Barbeque restaurants and on December 12 1948,
again in San Bernardino, CA, the opened the world's first McDonalds focusing on
speed, price and volume.
In 1954 Ray A. Kroc signed a deal with McDonald
brothers to become their franchising agent and opened his first McDonald’s in
Des Plaines, Illinois, eventually buying the McDonald brothers out in 1961 for
$2.7 million, but the brothers keep the San Bernardino location renaming it to
'Big M' which eventually closed in 1970.
