The first Everest ascent ever

WORLD'S FIRST EVEREST ASCENT
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

Who was the world's first person to climb Everest?

This is indeed a fascinating mystery, one that may never be solved.

On June 08 1924 George Mallory and Sandy Irvine were passed by Howard Somervell, who was on his way down after not being able to reach the summit. At this point they were within view of the top of the world.

Howard Somervell gave Mallory his camera to record the first ascent of Mount Everest.

Mallory and Irvine were last seen by Noel Odell within arms reach of the summit, but the clouds soon blocked Odell's view and Mallory and Irvine were never seen again.

75 years later Mallory's frozen body was found just 2,000 feet below the summit, but the camera, which may hold the proof, has yet to be discovered.

Sir Edmund Hillary and his sherpa, Tenzing Norgay, are still credited as being the first to climb Mount Everest. They reached the summit on May 29 1953.
