When was the world's first American census?
Although the U.S. Census Bureau
was not created until 1902, the first American census started on August 07 1790
and every ten years thereafter.
The official count was not calculated until March 01
1792 showing that the total population was 3,929,214.
The census covered only 12 states.
Indians were not included in the count.
Here are the questions asked on the 1790 census:

head of household.

number of free white males ages 16
and older.

number of free white males under
the age of 16.

number of free white females.
-
number of all other free persons.

number of slaves.
