WORLD'S FIRST AMERICAN FLAG
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What was the world's first American flag?
Short answer: the flag sewn by
Betsy Ross, but this isn't the shortest website...
On January 01 1776 the continental army was recognized
and American forces were placed in the control of George Washington. Washington
ordered the Grand Union flag raised above his base at Prospect Hill.
In May 1776 Betsy Ross reportedly sewed the first
American flag with 13 alternating red and white stripes and thirteen stars, but
this is up for debate.
On June 14 1777 the flag act was passed and an official flag was adopted.
Today's American flag has 50 white stars (one for each
state), 7 red stripes (representing hardiness and valor), 6 white stripes
(representing purity and innocence) and a blue field behind the stars
(representing vigilance, perseverance and justice).
