THE BICKNELL NEWSPAPER
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
The story of the Bicknell Newspaper.
The Bicknell Newspaper while its
location on North Main Street in Bicknell located in Knox County, Indiana was
known for having ghostly apparitions.
Several employees that found themselves working
late into the night alone or in the wee morning hours witnessed sights and
sounds that caused many of them to fear ever being the last one to leave or even
the first one to arrive.
One employee while working some hours late in the
night and early morning to handle his extra workload recalled that he heard
strange noises coming from the pressroom and the camera. He was not the first or
last person to hear these unearthly sounds from both of these rooms.
As the story goes, back in the early 1940’s the
building was home to a restaurant in the front area and in the back of the
building was a meeting place reserved for the mine rescue crew. During this
time, an explosion at The Panhandle mine occurred which killed at least 12 coal
miners in the worst mining accident Bicknell had ever seen. There were at this
time two small funeral homes in Bicknell and they did not have room for the
bodies, thus a few of them were kept at the mine rescue station.
Today, it is believed that the miners that lost
their lives are coming back to the mine rescue station in the hopes of helping
other miners even though the building is no used for that purpose.
Whether this legend is true or a made up story to
explain strange sounds may never be known, since working late into the night is
something that no one has the desire to do.
