BACHELOR'S GROVE CEMETERY
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
The story of Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery.
This cemetery may be the most
haunted place in all of Chicago. If you dare, you can visit this abandoned,
scary cemetery by visiting the suburb of Midlothian, Illinois, near the Rubio
Woods Forest Preserve. You will find Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery right on the edge
of the forest.
There are several reports of strange occurrences
and weird phenomena with over 100 different encounters. Some of the reports
include unexplained sounds, unexplained sights, glowing balls of lights, and
actual apparitions. The cemetery has not been in use for several years and if
you just passed by you would think, it was a quiet resting place for those
buried there, but if you talked with ghost chasers, you will hear quite a
different story.
The first burial was in 1844 and
the last one in 1989. The original name of the cemetery was Everdon’s. The
cemetery was pretty busy from 1844 until 1965, and then no one was buried there
until the last burial in 1989. The period between 1965 and 1989, the cemetery
was left untouched and since 1989, it was left abandoned. During the 1960’s the
cemetery was vandalized and the cemetery had to be closed to preserve history in
1965. However, this did not help the cemetery to be a quiet resting place. The
rumors are that the cemetery during the 1970’s became home to many satanic and
occultist groups that performed many rituals and ceremonies, and of course,
vandalized the entire cemetery and even stole tombstones.
Some of the mysterious sightings include a phantom
white farmhouse that appears and disappears along the gravel trail to the
entrance of the cemetery. Many people have seen this old white farmhouse in
several different places along the trail and it has been seen during daylight
and nighttime.
Near the cemetery and just past the fence that
encircles the cemetery is a small lagoon. It is believed that this lagoon or
pond was a favorite dumping ground for Chicago gangsters or at least for those
that crossed them. People have reported seeing a two headed monster and a farmer
with a horse drawn wagon near the pond.
When you finish exploring all the
outer areas around the cemetery and get up enough nerve to venture in you will
encounter many more ghosts such as monk’s dressed in robes and a man with a
yellow glow in 1984. Several people have captured these ghosts on film such as
the one in the photo known as the “White Lady”. Many believe she is the ghost of
a young woman that is buried close to her infant son.
Therefore, if you are brave and not afraid to encounter a ghost, then take a
visit to Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery, where the dead do not rest in place but
wander through the cemetery.
