IN AMARILLO, TEXAS

THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

The story of the Natatorium.

The Natatorium in Amarillo, Texas was originally built in July 1922 and at that time was an indoor swimming pool. The swimming pool is not the reason the Natatorium became so popular throughout the United States. In 1926, it was purchased by J.D. Tucker and the pool was covered with one of the finest dance floors around. During this time period the flappers of the roaring 20’s enjoyed quite a few wonderful nights dancing on this fine floor.

During the 1930’s it was purchased by Harry Badger. The Natatorium was famous no matter what music was in style to have the best bands cross over its threshold. Many of the bands that played here included Tommy Dorsey, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Guy Lombardo, Little Richard, Roy Orbison, the Crickets, and Buddy Holly.

This must have been a very happening place as today there are guests that have not even let death keep them away. One such lady is one that had wine spilled on her white dress one evening while enjoying the gambling hall upstairs. She is still here, with the wine still on the front of her dress even though today the Natatorium is now an Antique Mall.

Where the ballroom floor stands today, many have seen couples dancing and enjoying the night away without of course the benefit of any music being played. Paranormal investigators tried to capture this ghostly couples, but they must not wish to be seen as they would turn off the cameras. The secrets held in the Natatorium may never be known, but the ones that remain even after death, know the entertainment and joy that is here behind the walls.
