THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
The story of Haunting’s at Fort Leavenworth.
Fort Leavenworth can be found in
Leavenworth, Kansas. The entire area, which is now the U.S Army Combined Arms
Center, is home to ghosts in just about every building on the property.
Many people have seen faces in the back of
fireplaces and strange noises at night throughout the officer’s houses. It is
believed that these ghosts are spirits of those that were executed at the United
States Disciplinary Barracks or those buried in the National Cemetery that you
can view just past the prison walls.
In the Chief of Staff’s Quarters, some have heard a
joyful sound of a tea party, which were at one time very popular here at 624
Scott Avenue in the parlor.
The St. Ignatius Chapel once stood at 632 Thomas
Avenue; today it is merely a house. The church was burned to the ground in 1875
and a priest lost his life in the fire. Parts of the old church were used to
build a home on the exact spot. Several visitors have claimed to see this
priest, Father Fred walking through the home and up and down the stairs on
numerous occasions. In 1970, an instant photo was taken during a dinner party
and everyone that has seen the photo claims there is a clear image the robed
Father along with other guests.
Another chapel was built to replace this one in a
different location. This chapel also burned to the ground on December 16, 2000.
One of the most famous ghost to live here is that
of General George Armstrong Custer. He was court-martialed in 1867 at 1 Scott
Avenue and many people believe to see him roaming throughout the building. He
was re-instated and served until he lost his life during the Little Big Horn
battle. It is speculated that he haunts this area because of his court-martial.
If you are ever in the vicinity of Leavenworth, Kansas, which is located two
miles of Leavenworth on highway 73, I would not slow down to pick up strangers
or stop and take a walk in the woods nearby. You may find yourself in the
presence of ghosts of the past that do not wish to be disturbed.
