THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
The story of Effie.
At this time, the Skirvin Hotel in
Oklahoma City is under renovation. However, during its time, it was the grandest
of hotels in all of Oklahoma. The unique and beautiful hotel was opened in 1911
with two, 10-story towers and in the lobby were featured imported Austrian
chandeliers with a price tag of $10,000 per chandelier. W.B. Skirvin had built
the dream hotel, and his daughter Perl Mesta gave it international attention by
being the ambassadress to Luxemburg. In 1930, another wing was added which
raised the hotel to 14 stories. Yes, it does have a thirteenth floor, but that
is not where the ghosts appear.
Many guests, especially men have had trouble with
“Effie”. “Effie” fondly named by employees at a later date, since no one really
knows the name of W.B. Skirvin’s mistress during prohibition in the 1930’s. As
the tale goes, Mr. Skirvin had an affair with a one of his maids at the hotel.
The maid became pregnant and Mr. Skirvin locked her away on the top floor of the
hotel. She was very depressed and could barely stand being locked away until
after the birth of her child. However, the imprisonment did not end after the
birth of her baby and no one knows the exact amount of time this poor girl and
her baby were held captive before she could no longer handle the loneliness and
jumped from the 14th floor window with the baby in her arms.
Guests at the hotel prior to its closing have
reported hearing a child crying, hearing a female voice proposition them, see
the image of a naked women in the shower with them, strange noises and maid
carts moving down the hall unattended.
When the renovation is complete and the Skirvin is
once again open for business, do you think Effie will make her appearance?
