ST. NICHOLAS HOTEL
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
The story of St. Nicholas Hotel.
St. Nicholas hotel is on a hill
overlooking Cripple Creek, Colorado. When it was first built in the late
nineteenth century, it was a hospital ran by the Sisters of Mercy. The hospital
also was used as lodging for the Sisters and a school for children in the area
The hospital throughout the years aided prospectors
and families of the entire area and even expanded to include a mentally ill
ward. However, of course, the mining boom came to an end and so did the need for
the hospital. It finally closed its doors in the 1970ís.
It sat empty of quite awhile and then Noel and
Denise Perran and other colleague, Susan Adelbush purchased, refurbished and
created a unique hotel. It now has the same beautiful view it once had
overlooking Cripple Creek complete with 15 guest rooms, antiques, exquisite
linens and the elegance of days gone by.
Spending a night at the hospital turned hotel might
not be elegant and peaceful as you might imagine. There are ghost lurking about!
Many ghosts have been seen including nuns, children and even former patients of
the mental ward. One that has been named Stinky because of the sewage smell he
emits loves hiding around the back staircase. A few guests have seen a miner
without an upper body in various locations throughout the hotel.
Stevey, however, is the most popular ghost. He is a
small boy that enjoys stealing cigarettes and moving items around in the tavern.
You can visit this unique and ghostly hotel at 303
Third Street in Cripple Creek.
