The story of the Alamo.
The Alamo, which was originally
built to be a mission, found it soon was home to United States soldiers
protecting the state of Texas from the take over of Mexico. In 1836, General
Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana, the President of Mexico led his army of 4000 Mexican
soldiers into Texas. There were only 188 Americans at the Alamo at the time the
battle began. The Americans held the fort for a long 11 days before Santa Ana
and his men took control. Santa Ana ordered that all the Americans were to be
buried in one mass grave.
Today, the Alamo is only a monument to the brave
Americans that lost their lives defending the state of Texas; however, their
souls have never departed. Many visitors have seen the disfigured men walking in
and out of the walls of the fort, hear screams coming from the fort after hours,
and others have seen the ghostly figures walking along the top of the famous
fort. Even the riders that were sent for help with Santa Ana was attacked have
been seen riding away on horseback. The most famous ghosts that live among the
ruins are Davy Crockett, Sam Bowie, and William Travis who all lost their lives
at the Alamo defending the great state of Texas.
If you decide to see this famous attraction, stay
in the nearby hotel with a window facing the Alamo. You may be able to get a
glimpse of the reenactment of the soldiers that were there in March of 1836 and
hears their screams as Mexico takes over the Alamo. However, if you have a weak
stomach do not spend the night or be sure your window faces away.
