THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

The story of the White River Monster.

Whether this legend is true or not, the Arkansas State Legislature created the White River Monster Refuge adjacent to the Jacksonport State Park and in the resolution made it illegal to "molest, kill, trample, or harm the White River Monster while he is in the retreat."

All the locals call the White River Monster “Whitey” and he has been seen in the area for over 150 years.

The very first people to see this unusual creature was the Quapaw Indians from there the legend has been passed down from generation to generation. During this first incident, the White River Monster overturned a brave’s canoe and then sank back into the river below. During the Civil War, the White River Monster was blamed for overturning a loaded Confederate gunship.

The description of this monster is snake like, 30 feet long with a spiny backbone. He makes a bellowing noise some have also said that he has a dingy gray crusted hide.

Campers and fishermen throughout history have all reported seeing the White River Monster.

Other sightings include 1937 when a farmer by the name of Bateman claimed to see the creature many times rising to the surface and swims around for around 10 minutes before he goes back under the water. In 1966, he was sighted by three people fishing. In 1971, again proof of the creature was found. Three toed tracks were discovered along the banks of the river.

Whether this is a creature, a figment of people’s imagination, or even a ghost of a creature which vanished years ago if you wish to visit and try to find the White River Monster beware he may be more than a mere legend. The White River Monster has not been seen since 1971 or at least no one has reported seeing him.

Newport, Arkansas is around 90 miles northeast of Little Rock on Highway 67.
