HOW EBAY WORKS
PART 2
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
How does eBay work?
Out of the many ways to pay on eBay, cash is by far
the riskiest. It could easily get lost in the mail or just as easily, the seller
could say that it got lost it the mail when in fact, they received it. The worst
part about this scenario is that there is nothing that can be done about it once
it has happened. You could alternatively send a check through the mail but
sellers will most likely wait until the check has been put through your bank
account and theirs before sending you the item. This could be a huge
inconvenience, especially if you are waiting for the item for a certain
occasion, such as someone’s birthday. There’s an alternative to this as well by
sending a certified check but this will cost you more money. Using sites for
electronic payments is generally the preferred method of payment for both buyers
and sellers because the seller doesn’t have to wait for their product and it
doesn’t cost them anything and the seller also likes it because they receive
their payment right away.
Once the seller has received the payment, they will ship it to buyer right away.
Most of the shipping instructions on eBay are quite vague so a buyer generally
has to ask the seller about it before bidding. Sellers will usually charge the
shipping price to the buyer and they will also generally send it through regular
mail. After the item has been received by the buyer, it is courteous to leave
feedback. Many people when browsing through eBay will look at a person’s rating
through feedback and use that to help them decide whether or not they want to
continue with the transaction. Leaving feedback is a nice way to say thank you
to the buyer or seller.
Buying items from eBay may sound complicated but it’s actually quite simple,
especially when you start buying many items from the site. Selling items isn’t
that much harder than buying them either. The first thing to remember is that
there are certain items that you can’t sell on eBay. These include things such
as anything that’s illegal such as some weapons or illegal drugs, or
prescription drugs. You also can’t sell anything that could be used in illegal
activities or activities that infringe on someone else’s rights. These items
include tools used to pick locks and surveillance equipment. You can’t sell body
parts and you can’t something that is not a concrete item, such as your love or
your soul. To be sure that you are selling something that is allowed by eBay,
you can check out there entire list posted on their site. Other items may
include things that have a copyright or a trademark on them.
The first thing you need to do when selling an item on eBay is to click on the
“Sell” tab. It will then offer a few different options to sell your item
including selling it through an auction, selling it at a fixed price, or selling
real estate. You will then need to choose in which category you want to sell
your item. For an additional price, you can also choose a sub-category to help
sell your category. This is only a good option if you feel that you need to be
more specific with your item. If you have chosen to sell a television for
instance, buyers will be looking for that in electronics so the broad category
is generally enough.
Next as a seller, you will need to describe your item. In the description field,
you can write anything that you want about the item. Write it out as you want to
see it if you don’t want to include any different types of fonts or layouts with
it. If you do want to get a bit fancier, you will need to know the HTML code to
do so. The next step is to decide on a starting price. It is here that you can
choose the “Buy it Now” option and also decide on how long you want the auction
to run for. Before choosing a starting price, it’s in your best interests to
research how much a new comparable item sells for and how much a used one sells
for. This will give you a good idea as to how much you should be charging. Also,
if the item is used and you aren’t sure that all of the parts are in working
order, you not only want to disclose that in the description, emphasizing its
good features but you will also want to start the price low.
There are advantages to doing it this way. It will place it in people’s minds
that they will be able to use the parts and therefore, should consider buying it
for specifically that purpose. The low price will also attract more buyers, even
if you aren’t sure how well the item will work. Starting the price low will also
make you give up less fees to eBay since they base their fee on the price of the
item.
You will then want to add a picture to help the item sell, state your payment
method. You may also choose to include the shipping price by placing a shipping
calculator on the page so the buyer will know exactly how much they’re paying.
The last step is to review the entire listing and make sure that everything is
correct. This is not that much different than the confirmation page you use when
you are buying. You then choose to place the listing and if you have chosen for
the auction to start right away, the item will be placed on eBay immediately.
Once a seller has bought your auction straight-out or through an auction, the
seller will be sent an invoice. This is done simply by hitting, “Send Invoice.”
If the item doesn’t sell, you can relist the item without being charged another
listing fee. However, you will still be responsible for paying a percentage of
the final sale cost.
eBay is a wonderful site that allows people to find rare items, everyday items,
and reap the benefits of shopping online. It’s easy to use regardless if you are
buying and selling and continues to be the number one auction in the world. It’s
popularity does not look like its going to slow down any time soon.
