There is a bit of controversy as
to the name of the montain. Originally it was called Denali, meaning 'the great
one', but in 1897 the Mountain was officially named Mount McKinley, after U.S.
president William McKinley.
In 1980 the Alaska Board of Geographic Names changed
the name of the mountain back to 'Denali' but the U.S. Board of Geographic Names
still considers it Mount McKinley.
Regardless of the name, North America's largest
mountain stands to a majestic 20,320 feet or 6,194 meters ASL.
As tall as Denali is, it is only the 104th tallest
mountain in the world.
