THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST

What is the world's largest Telescope?

The Arecibo radio telescope is currently the largest telescope in the world. Located in a natural valley of Puerto Rico, this single-dish telescope is 305 metres long (1000 feet.) It is also 167 feet deep and spans an area of about twenty feet. The surface is comprised of approximately 40,000 perforated aluminium panels. Each of these panels measures approximately three feet by six feet and is supported by a network of steel cables.

The telescope is used for various astronomical research projects including studies of pulsars as well as mapping atomic and molecular gas throughout the Universe. The Arecibo telescope can also be used to send messages and has recorded radiation of planets in the Solar System and has even broadcast messages to parts of the Galaxy that intelligent extra-terrestrial may inhabit. Anybody that wishes to use the telescope may submit a proposal to a review committee and they can then accept or refuse the proposal.
