What was the world's largest human logo?
We see logos every day on billboards, television,
magazines, and just about everywhere we turn it seems. But a human logo? More
than that, the largest human logo? Realizar Eventos Especiais did created just
that on July 24, 1999.
The logo was comprised of 34,309 people and they
were in the National Stadium of Jamor, Lisbon. The logo was designed as part of
a bid to UEFA from Portuguese to host Euro2004, which was the European football
championships in 2004. The unique logo showed a soccer player kicking a ball on
a red and white background. Because it was human, Portuguese seized the
opportunity to make their logo come to life when the player kicked the soccer
ball. The people who made up the leg portion of the logo wore black and white
caps and when they turned them around, it looked like the soccer player was
actually kicking the ball.
But they decided to go even further than that. Once
the ball had been kicked by the player, ten thousand red and green helium
balloons, which are the colours of the Portuguese flag, were released into the
sky. The crowd shouted “Portugal we love football,” and they all then sung the
