What is the world's largest aquarium?

Back in 2003 Bernie Marcus, co-founded The Home Depot, came forth with a gift to the city of Atlanta, plans to build the world's largest aquarium.

On November 23, 2005 the Georgia Aquarium officially opened and indeed was billed as the world's largest aquarium.

At a cost of $250 million the Georgia Aquarium spans 20 acres, containing just over 8.1 million US gallons, or 31,000 m³, of salt and fresh water, which is the home to over 100,000 animals, representing 500 different species.
