Who was the world's largest grossing female director?
The world of movies has sort of always been a boy’s
club when it comes to producers and especially, directors. Big names like Steven
Spielberg and Martin Scorsese have always blessed the box office with high
grossing movies that combine amazing visual effects with a great story and all
of the other elements that make a great movie just that.
But Catherine Hardwicke changed all of that when she
decided to direct the movie “Twilight.” The movie is based on a series of books
that was written by Stephenie Meyer. The first movie, along with the series of
books, portrays a struggle between a vampire family, the Cullens and the world
around them. Combine with that the fact that one of the younger vampires, Edward
Cullen, falls in love with a human named Bella, and you not only have a story
about a species that is trying to fit in with another but also two teens from
opposite sides that need to try and find a way to let their love thrive.
“Twilight” took in $30 million at the box office on
the very first day of its release and by the time it was finished its movie
theater run, it had more than doubled that number with $70 million in ticket
sales alone! This is undeniably a huge accomplishment for any movie but for
“Twilight” it also marks the movie as being the largest grossing movie with a
