notes. But the largest singing lesson in the world was actually more of a
performance, held by one of the leading singing organizations in the United
The organization that is responsible for claiming
the title of the largest singing lesson is the Sweet Adelines International
organization. Sweet Adelines International isn’t just famous for winning world
titles and competitions. It’s also known for promoting barbershop harmony
throughout the United States, and in parts of Canada, Australia, and Europe. The
organization’s membership tallies 25,000 singers, 1,200 registered quartets, and
600 choruses. And even though the organization is huge, it was not this many
people that turned up for the event that bestowed Sweet Adelines International
with the title of holding the world’s largest singing lesson.
The lesson took place on October 24, 2009 and was
held in, appropriately enough, the music capital of the world, Nashville,
Tennessee. It was there that Sweet Adelines took center stage at Sommet Center
stage, in celebration of the Sweet Adeline’s International 63rd Annual
International Convention and Competition. 6,651 singers took the stage to sing
in four part barbershop harmony. They were led by the organization’s President,
Peggy Gram, and the 2009 International Champion Moxie Ladies Quartet.
