WORLD'S LARGEST BOMB
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What was the world's largest bomb?
During the heart of the cold was Russia decided to
build the world's largest nuclear bomb called Tsar Bomba or Царь-бомба, in
Russian which translated into 'Emperor bomb'.
The bomb was codenamed Ivan or Иван in Russian, and was
first designed as a 100 megaton bomb, but due to the scare of fallout was
modified and ended up being a 50 megaton bomb.
The bomb was 8 meters long, 2 meters in diameter and
weighed an atomic 27 tons.
Tsar Bomba was tested at 11:32 AM October 30 1961,
Moscow time, on Novaya Zemlya Island in the Arctic Sea.
Tsar Bomba exploded at 4,000 meters above the ground
and the resulting fireball reached 10,000 meters high.
The mushroom cloud was about 60 kilometers high and
40 kilometers in diameter and the explosion could be seen and felt in Finland.
Had the bomb detonated underground it would have
created an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter Scale.
Luckily the bomb was built mainly for propaganda and
was the only one of that size ever made.
