If your thinking New York City, then congratulations,

New York City is by far the largest American city, as
far as population goes boasting over 8 million people that call it home.
The next closest is Los Angeles at just under 4
million as of the 2005 census.
Now as far as area goes, there is a city that is
larger than the state of Delaware and you'll have to go through Canada to get
there, unless you live in Alaska.
Officially the city is named 'City and Borough of
Sitka', but it's better known as Sitka, Alaska.
In 2000 Sitka consolidated the City of Sitka Borough
to beat out Juneau as the largest city in America.
Sitka covers an icy 2874 square miles.
